Reed Galasinski : Improving communication between employees and patrons to help enforce rules and regulations.
Candidate: Reed Galasinski
Mentor: Aubrey Korzyniewski
Details
Reed arrived at his main goal by looking for ways to improve our relations with patrons. He is eager to align our rules and regulations at the pool with patrons so there is a reduction of issues/troubles. This goal will apply across the board for all aspects of the pool; general pool rules, concessions rules, slide rules, and much more. The hope from this goal is that our facilities can become safer and that rules are enforced equally across the board for every person who walks in.
Related Tasks:
Creating graphic posters for pool rules, more eye catching and appealing for patrons.
Reed’s first task is creating posters for pool rules that are commonly broken and overlooked. Examples of this consist of running on the pool deck, eating on the pool deck, double bouncing, and laying on ropes/lane lines. His approach is to create visually appealing posters/graphics with these specific rules that can be put next to the lengthy list of rules at both pools that are commonly disregarded. I believe a more eye catching poster for patrons will have them coming into the pool with the knowledge of what they can and cannot do.
Additionally, Reed and I are developing a potential script for managers to announce during busy days (especially camp), that announces common rules and keeps everyone safe. This idea will keep both pools on the same track and allow for consistency of monitoring rules.
Was the task completed: No
Task evaluation:

Reed completed these posters as his initial task, but with advisement, we are redoing this idea! Instead Reed will be creation graphics using images, that can be supplementary to current Pool Rules list. Rather than adding more signage, we will be creating a greater visual appeal to what we already have.

Please visit “Task 1,” to see the projected outcome of Reed’s plan. His first task revolves around the reduction of rule breaking and how we can combat it.

Reed will be coming in for his third meeting to evaluate his first task and develop a plan for our second task. The plan is to have Reed’s online portion of his mentorship done before the end of the week! He is making great progress and coming in with an eager mindset and great ideas that will benefit the pools.
Reed Galasinski : Meeting (3)
Aubrey and I started off our meeting by going over changes of my task of making a poster for common pool rules that we see broken. After getting your feedback about preferring graphics over more signage, we decided on the idea of me making graphics online specific to Mitchell and Deerspring rules which I plan to have done before Friday. After this we started talking about my second task of making a script of our pool rules to be announced throughout the day, and at camps arrivals. We will be working together to perfect the script to leave it in such a manner that enforces rules amongst our patrons while also leaving a positive note that lets them know we just want them to be safe.
In regards to my leadership goal during Fridays All-Staff Meeting we decided that a rule themed scavenger hunt would best suit my goal. The plan was to make groups of concessions workers and give them rule based riddles which will lead them to different parts of the pool. For example, “No bouncing more than once on me”, and the next clue would next to the high dive at top. The winning team will be bought one free concession stand item by me (if allowed) to help encourage teamwork and community building among my co-workers. Aubrey and I believe that this scavenger hunt is a great idea which focuses on my main goal of improving rule enforcement by reminding my co-workers of our rules through a fun game, which also encouraging teamwork and understanding everyones strengths.
Aubrey-
Reed has a great understanding of what needs to be accomplished moving forward. His All-Staff activity will help demonstrate his leadership and organizational skills, of which I am looking forward to seeing.

What should we improve?
The candidate chose items in the aquatics program and department to improve. Goals are broad targets that we will work towards. Every meeting and task done will be in service of that goal. Goals should be large enough to encompass many tasks. Goals may not be attainable. Goals are our guiding direction; our North Star.
Reed Galasinski's brainstormed ideas:
- "Script" for employees to announce during busy hours/camps that remind patrons of rules at the pool; continually reinforcing.
- Create signage for slide @ booth pools - no goggles, glasses, etc.
- Manager accountability for monitoring employees hours worked vs. clock out break
- Screen window addition for Derp, STOP THE BUGS! Additonal components; bug killer, swatters, traps
