Demonstrate a short streamline and then begin swimming.
We’re looking for a combo of skills; both the streamline either on the surface or underwater followed by front crawl.
With or without breathing.
Testable goal:
Swimmer pushes off in streamline and holds it for a short distance and begins swimming front crawl.
This should be done repeatedly with comfort for a decent distance (5 body lengths) without struggle or anxiety. Can be supported after swim.
Bonus Goals:
- Keep face aiming at the bottom of the pool.
- Streamline could be underwater.
- If water shallow enough, allow swimmers to do a SL and swim and return on their own back to the beginning.
Activities to achieve this goal:
Big arm circles
Can be done with support or by themselves.
Start with straight arms with big circles and focus on long reaching arms.
What are the 3 things for streamline we’re working on?
1) Lock Thumb
2) Look Down
3) Squeeze Ears with elbows
Standing on Deck, demonstrate and say it.
3 x SL + Free Kick
Dropdown underwater, then push off in streamline.
Grown into a streamline as you push with your legs.
Utilize short distances. SL 1/2 and swim the other 1/2.
Focus on getting in a good streamline to begin, and at 1/2 way (or when they get to the instructor) begin swimming.
Refine the arms strokes after comfortable with big circles.
Talk about having a high elbow, but it isn’t that important right now.
Challenges to achieve this goal:
Challenges are like games but with less moving parts and quicker.
Challenge:
Streamline with no kick 1/2 way to the target and do 3 strokes of FREE to get the rest.
Challenge:
Push off the wall or bench without making a splash in position 11
Challenge:
Do 10 super slow FREE arms on the deck over :20 seconds.
Full reach into 11 and bent elbows pushing down.
Challenge:
With only 30 flutter kicks get from one bench to the other in SL or position 11.
