Replace all garbage backs on the deck and in locker rooms every evening. Do not leave any trash in the trash bin overnight. Place trash bags in the cart to be taken to the dumpster. Must be dumped nightly or as needed when filled.

    Floors:

The mens and women’s locker rooms and family bathrooms must be scrubbed with brushes and soapy water each night. Fill a bucket with water and soap solution. Use the provided brushes to scrub the floors vigorously with sudsy soap water.

Use the hose with the spray nozzle to push suds, debris, and dirt into the drains. Must use concentric circles and fluid dynamics to push not just the soap, but the dirt, hair, grass, rocks, etc that are on the floor into the drains.

Glove the drains of debris and throw into garbage.

    Chrome:

All metal or exposed chrome in the locker room needs to be sprayed with the metal/chrome cleaner spray and manually wiped down with a rag or paper towel. Mirror frames, changing room frames, shower handles, shower heads, sink heads, sink dials, etc. All metal should be sprayed and wiped.

    Related Meetings:

  • Autumn: 1st meeting

  • Autumn had a lot of really good ideas and seems really excited to help the pool change for the better. Here are some of the ideas that she came up with that could work towards a goal, but wasn’t a specific goal. Her homework for the next meeting is to come up with 4 theses that would service these goals. I included those ideas below.

Short 60 second video of someone doing something and it’s easier to see than Red Cross videos are (like a pool tik tok)

Hide something once a week at the pools and people have to come in and physically find it
Person who comes to the pool the most gets a prize (guidelines for the search).

Partner with charities to make sure that the stuff in the lost and found is going to good use.

    Action items:

Readjustment for goal. Creating disks for the trash cans. They need to be flipped every time it rains. Instead we should provide covers to make it easier to keep water out.

  • Autumn Final Product

  • Hello Jeff, for this mentorship project I have come up with multiple ways to fix the problem of having to flip over and take out all the trash cans when it starts raining. With the implementation of one of these ideas we can optimize our time management, have a more efficient solution, and reduce waste when taking all the trash bags out even when they are empty to flip all the bins over.

My first idea is I have created 2D and 3D models as a representation of how many boards we would need and how big each circle we would need to be the optimal lid size. There are two options I have come up with for this (same size and dimension just different materials).

First we have PVC sheet (Link) $98.98 per board (we would need 5 boards) (2 orange, 1 yellow, 1 green, and 1 blue)

    Negatives

    – Kind of expensive

    Pros

    – Easy storage

    – Will last a long time

    – Waterproof

    – Completely customizable and perfect fit for each bin

Second we have Tempered Hardwood (Link) $12.72 per board (we would need 5 boards) (2 orange, 1 yellow, 1 green, and 1 blue)

    Negatives

    – not fully waterproof

    – thin and could weather af

    Pros

    – Cheaper

    – Reusable for awhile

    – Completely customizable

First we would need 2 orange boards like this, the 22 inch diameter can be slightly bigger than 22 inches but nothing less than that is ideal.

Then we would need 1 yellow board, the 22 inch diameter can also be slightly above but ideally no less than. And the 23 inch needs to be 23 inches or slightly under but preferably nothing over.

For the green board we need 1, the 23 inch diameter can be under but ideally not above 23 inches. And the 18 inch diameter can be slightly under but ideally nothing more than 18 inches.

For the blue board we would need 1, the diameter of the 18 inch circle ideally can be under but not above.

For the next option we have the cheapest with a plastic trash cover we would need to initially buy 3 packs and so on as we use them (link) $20.59 per pack (12 for each pack)

    Negatives

    – Not reusable

    – Least sturdy

    – Could break or fall off with strong rain/wind

    – Might not fit completely right

    Pros

    – Cheapest

    – Easy storage

The next idea is a more expansive version of the plastic lids which is a reusable trash cover, and we would need to buy 9 packs (Link) $25.99 per pack (4 lids in each pack)

    Negatives

    – More expansive

    – Could get moldy or smelly if left out without being cleaned

    – Takes up a little more space for storage

    – Might not fit completely right

    Pros

    – Reusable

    – Waterproof

  • Action items:

  • Autumn Seward: reviewing and revising cleaning checklist

    • Changed timing for Mitchell cleanings to ensure everything is being done, in a time efficent manner
    • Brain stormed different cleaning orders (ie hosing them surfaces) to ensure everything flows and makes sense
    • Discussed cleaning options that might be avoided, or not done as often and implemented a time in the schedule to do it (ie spraying the fridge and organizing the janitors closet)
    • Made sure the checklist was understandable, and not complex to follow so anyone can read it and quick know what to do, for how long, and when to switch tasks
    • Made the checklist visually appealing and organized so that important parts people might be confused with or unsure are easy to follow

    Related Updates:

  • Purchased garbage bin covers and delivered

  • 4/22/2025:

Purchased the plastic and drawstring covers to test. Will avoid the PVC cut outs unless these prove too flimsy or unusable. Based on initial impression I think that the blue plastic ones will be the most effective.

    Information about the Goal

Autumn S arrived at their goal through a series of meetings and refinement. Learn how that process happened.

    What should we improve?

The candidate chose items in the aquatics program and department to improve. Goals are broad targets that we will work towards. Every meeting and task done will be in service of that goal. Goals should be large enough to encompass many tasks. Goals may not be attainable. Goals are our guiding direction; our North Star.

    Autumn S's brainstormed ideas:

    Increase guards' confidence in skills.
Increased community awareness of the pool rules.
Increased community involvement and excitement about the pools.
Figure out a system in which we don't just throw away the stuff in the lost and found.
Create a way to cover the trash cans so that when it rains we don't have to turn them upside down every day.

    Goal Evaluation:

Jeff N will submit for 2025 budget the PVC sheet and creation of discs for Mitchell pool and budget for the drawstring strap covers for Deerspring (based on the differences of the trash can designs).
